Hello all. This week, John Michael Greer returns for a conversation sparked by his latest book ‘The Magical Writings of W.B. Yeats’.

Topics discussed include:

• The occult dimensions of Yeats life and times

• What magic actually is (and isn’t)

• The overlap between magic and New Thought (popularly known as ‘manifesting’)

• That magic isn’t really a case of belief, and that all of us are – mostly unconsciously – performing magic all the time

• How mastering the non-material forces which permeate the cosmos can help us shape our outer experience of reality

• How magic – in the form of advertising, propaganda and mass media manipulation – creates compliance, passivity and mass hypnosis

• How building a psychic firewall can help us lead freer, more fulfilled lives

I was saddened to hear just yesterday of the death of Venom frontman Cronos. It’s impossible to overstate the band’s importance in my own musical development, first as a fan, then keen amateur musician, then professional journalist and - finally - as a professional musician. The keen amateur phase was sparked by my passion for many metal bands but, above all, by my love of Venom. Their raw energy, fuck-you-attitude and us-against-the-world approach inspired my high school band P.I.G. to play gigs before we were ‘ready’ (whatever ‘ready’ is), performing original material while other local acts just ploughed through listless sets of all the usual hackneyed cover versions.

During my writing career, I came to meet all three original members of Venom, penning several magazine features and many reviews, but it was the writing of the booklet accompanying 1991’s best of and rarities compilation ‘In Memorium’ – that really kicked it all off. It was my first paid writing commission - £100 if I recall correctly – and seeing myself in print for the first time was exhilarating.

Cronos made a spectacular guest appearance on ‘Haunted Shores’, the closing number from my second and final album with Cradle of Filth, ‘Dusk and Her Embrace’. Although his vocals were recorded earlier and in a different studio, his epic, spine-tingling performance pushed me to go for broke. During the last one minute plus, the band got to perform with one of our all-time heroes, me throwing choirs, timpani drums and thunderstorm sound effects into the mix as if my life depended on it. It still gives me chills to this day.

So thanks, Cronos, for your immeasurable contribution to ‘Welcome to Hell’, ‘Black Metal’, ‘At War With Satan’ and ‘Possessed’ – four of the most important albums of my life. R.I.P.

Originally published October 2012. Link to audio below. Michael Cremo discusses his books Forbidden Archaeology and Human Devolution, and what they tell us about true nature of human origins, identity and destiny.

Over the past two centuries researchers have found bones and artifacts showing that people like ourselves existed on earth millions of years ago. But the scientific establishment has ignored these remarkable facts because they contradict the dominant views of human origins and antiquity. In Forbidden Archaeology, Michael Cremo and Richard L. Thompson challenge us to rethink our understanding of human origins, identity, and destiny. Forbidden Archaeology takes on one of the most fundamental components of the modern scientific world view, and invites us to take a courageous first step towards a new perspective.

If Darwinian evolution is not the answer, then this begs the question: “If we did not evolve from apes, then where did we come from?” Human Devolution is Michael Cremo’s definitive answer to this question. “We did not evolve up from matter; instead we devolved, or came down, from the realm of pure consciousness, spirit,” says Cremo. He bases his response on modern science and the world’s great wisdom traditions, including the Vedic philosophy of ancient India. Cremo proposes that before we ask the question, “Where did human beings come from?” we should first contemplate, “What is a human being?” Cremo asserts that humans are a combination of matter, mind, and consciousness, or spirit.

Human Devolution contains solid scientific evidence showing how a subtle mind element and a conscious self that can exist apart from the body have been systematically eliminated from mainstream science by a process of knowledge filtration. “Any time knowledge filtration takes place you can expect a great deal of resistance, criticism, and ridicule when it is exposed and challenged,” says Cremo.

Originally published March 2017. Link to audio below. Dmitry Orlov discusses his book Shrinking the Technosphere: Getting a Grip on the Technologies that Limit our Autonomy, Self-sufficiency and Freedom.

Over the past two centuries we have witnessed the wholesale replacement of most previous methods of conducting both business and daily life with new, technologically advanced, more efficient methods, but what exactly is progressive or efficient about this new arrangement is hardly ever examined in depth. If the new ways of doing things are so much better, then we must all be leading relaxed, stress-free, enjoyable lives with plenty of free time to devote to art and leisure activities. But a more careful look at these changes shows us that the rapidly evolving brave new world of gadgets, gizmos and constant connectivity is instead a metastasising matrix of manipulation and control in which we have become slaves to money and machines. Creeping ever closer to outright omniscience, the Technosphere is an emergent intelligence in its own right.

The harm to the environment, society, and our individual lives is plain to see, but is brushed off amid hollow mantras about productivity, progress, and the graven idol of economic growth. Shrinking the Technosphere guides readers through the process of bringing technology down to a manageable number of carefully chosen, essential, well-understood, and controllable elements. It is about regaining the freedom to use technology for our own benefit, and is critical reading for all who seek to get back to a point where technologies assist us rather than control us. The endgame of the Technosphere is total domination; the outcome will be total destruction. But can humanity take back control before digital Armageddon finally dawns?

Hello all. This week, Roberto Pinelli joins me to discuss his book Awakening the Pineal Gland - Cellular Rejuvenation through Light and Sound. The pineal gland is less than a centimetre long. Yet this tiny organ in the brain plays an outsized role in many spiritual traditions as it is widely connected with the esoteric concept of the third eye. In the book, Pinelli explains his unique methods for using a combination of light, sound, and nutraceuticals to non-invasively activate the pineal gland to promote cellular rejuvenation, decrease aging, and improve overall well-being. Supported by case studies and peer-reviewed research, Pinelli’s method centres on using photons to convey vibrational energy through the eyes to target areas of the body. He shows the potent effects this has on mental health as it can improve memory, mental clarity, and self-awareness. His techniques also have positive effects on the body such as helping to heal degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, rheumatoid arthritis, and Parkinson’s.

Pinelli also explores Egyptian, Sumerian, and Aztec understandings of the sun and its life-giving rays, looking at how ancient knowledge has been corroborated by contemporary scientific findings. Awakening the Pineal Gland is a unique fusion of ancient and modern science that offers readers a practical guide on using light and sound as medicine to activate their higher nature.

Helen Sewell on the astrology of 2012. Topics discussed include: 2012, astrology, astronomy, psychology, science Vs spirituality, 9/11, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympics, societal collapse, beyond 2012 and the mass awakening of human consciousness.

Helen is a fully qualified professional astrologer with 25 years experience. She first became interested in astrology through reading books on the Sun signs when she was a teenager and it was then that she realised there was a definite correlation between what she read and the characteristics she could recognise in the people she knew. As Helen’s astrological reading broadened, Liz Greene became her favourite author and she then decided to take the opportunity to train under her guidance at the Centre for Psychological Astrology at Regents College in London. After four years Helen attained the Diploma in Psychological Astrology and went on to set up a private practice.

After meeting Geoff Stray in 2002, and reading his book Beyond 2012, Helen has been looking at the astrological significance of this time and has reached some very interesting conclusions. In recent years Helen has also become interested in the bigger cycles of the outer planets and how they affect individual countries and society at large.

Jay Dyer discusses his book Esoteric Hollywood – Sex, Cults and Symbols in Film. Delving into the deep, dark and mysterious undertones hidden in blockbusters and cult classics alike, Esoteric Hollywood explores philosophy, religion, symbolism and geopolitics, and their connections to film. We probe the prevalence of cinematic propaganda and predictive programming in promoting an ignorant, apathetic, dumbed-down generation of compliant consumers concerned only with instant gratification, unable and unwilling to challenge authority or subvert the status quo. We break down some of our own personal film favourites and ask whether, in an era dominated by gaming and social media, movies are less influential on the youth of today than they were in the past.

We also reveal Hollywood’s covert links to the CIA, how the border between fantasy and reality continues to blur, and the history of profound truths being hidden in plain sight on the silver screen. And from the dystopian sci fi and gritty, hard-boiled thrillers prevalent in the 1970s to the airbrushed, CGI-infested aberrations of today, we examine the extent to which movie makers are, unwittingly or otherwise, laying before our very eyes a real-world future which draws closer frame by frame.

Hello all. This week I sat down for a talk with David Stokes. David, a London mental health worker, blows open a broken mental health system and explores the much deeper, darker dimensions of the human psyche and collective unconscious.

David argues that the mental health of those suffering comes not from a chemical imbalance in their brain, as maintained by traditional psychiatry, but rather from a lack of spiritual connection to the wider world. In an age when we are repeatedly told that our lives, the world, and the entire cosmos are devoid of meaning and purpose, billions of people with no mental health diagnosis also suffer.

When describing some of his patients who hear voices in their heads, David uses the word ‘entities’. Is it possible that some people suffering from schizophrenia and other serious mental conditions are under some form of psychic attack? And if so, for what purpose and to what end? Is the presence of supernatural beings and malign forces sometimes called demons, Archons, Djinn, and similar, actually the source of the torment that drives some people out of their minds? And are these the metaphysical forces at work in the wider world causing conflict, generating and harvesting negative energy, plunging our entire species into mass insanity?

Hello all! This week I was a guest on the Expand Your Horizons radio show with Andy Thomas. Andy has been my guest on Legalise Freedom several times over the years (check him out HERE) and he is also the organiser of the Glastonbury Symposium conference at which I was invited to speak back in July. The link to the radio show episode can be found below.

Show notes: “In this episode, I’m joined by broadcaster and Legalise Freedom host Greg Moffitt for a wide-ranging conversation about sound, consciousness and the forgotten acoustic dimension of the world around us. We begin with Greg’s unusual path from playing keyboards in Cradle of Filth to working at York Minster, before exploring how sound has shaped his life and why he believes modern noise pollution, headphones, screens and constant stimulation are changing the way we think, feel and relate to one another. We also reflect on silence, the strange psychological impact of the pandemic’s quieter soundscape, and why simply stopping to listen - whether in the countryside or the middle of a city - can reveal an entirely different world.

“From there, we travel deep into archaeoacoustics: the study of sound in the ancient past. Greg shares thoughts on Stonehenge, megalithic sites, cathedrals, pyramids, cymatics, acoustic levitation and the possibility that our ancestors understood sound in ways we have largely forgotten. Along the way, we discuss writers and researchers who have influenced his thinking, from Paul Devereux and Olaf Stapledon to Andrew Collins, Graham Hancock and Robert Schoch. It’s a fascinating conversation about how sound may shape matter, mood, memory and even civilisation itself - and why, in our deafening modern world, this subject deserves far more attention.”

Images from my September 2019 visit to Rudston Monolith.

Standing in the grounds of All Saints Church Rudston in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, the monolith is the tallest standing stone (menhir) in Britain. The power exuded by the stone itself completely engulfs the churchyard later built around it (early Norman, around 1100). It is approximately 7.6 metres tall and weighs an estimated 40 tonnes. The top appears to have broken off. If it was originally pointed, it would have stood about 8.5 metres tall. Its depth into the ground may be almost as much as its height. It dates from the late Neolithic period, perhaps 2000 – 1600 B.C. Although located not far from York, I only discovered the stone’s existence while reading Graham Phillips’ excellent book Wisdomkeepers of Stonehenge. My two part radio show with Graham discussing megalithic culture can be found HERE.

Aaron Franz discusses his book ‘Revolve: Man’s Scientific Rise to Godhood’. Artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, implantable chips, and life extension. These and many other technologies are being promoted as the way for humanity to become something radically different. The transhumanist movement claims that by applying such technologies to our biology, we will become post-human. But behind this techno-utopian vision lurk the spectres of eugenics, mind control, police state propaganda, the end of privacy, and maybe even the end of the human race itself.

A new religion for a new age is being born, arising from a scientific and increasingly sinister quest for eternal life. The Philosopher’s Stone of the alchemists now appears to be within reach, as man strives to transcend Earthly limitations and merge at last with the Godhead itself. In Revolve, Franz moves beyond the typical Singularity sales pitch and artificial intelligence hype to bring us face to face with something far more profound, disturbing, and ancient.

Courtney Brown discusses the results of a remote viewing project which focused on the events of 9/11. Listeners unfamiliar with remote viewing may wish to listen to an introductory interview which can be found here.

The 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. in the year 2001 were arguably the most shocking and audacious events to happen so far this century. There are many unexplained anomalies associated with these attacks. The number and nature of the anomalies have led a significant and growing number of people to question the official explanation of these events as simply the actions of a small band of terrorists known as al-Qaeda led by Osama bin Laden. This investigation takes a fresh look at 9/11 using remote-viewing methods that were originally developed by the U.S. military and used for espionage purposes. The results are both deeply disturbing and highly controversial.

Hello all. This week, longtime guest Steve Taylor sat down with me to discuss his latest book ‘Across the Universe: The Magic and Mystery of the Beatles Creativity’. What made the Beatles so extraordinary? How did these four young musicians come together at exactly the right moment, and how did everything fall into place so perfectly that they became the most innovative and successful band that the world has ever seen, and a cultural phenomenon that still shapes the world today? Was it simply a series of lucky coincidences, or were there larger reasons for their success?

Steve, a renowned scholar of psychology and spirituality, and former professional musician, retells the story of the Beatles through the lens of their creativity and explains the secrets of their genius. He explores the synchronicities and synergy that generated their success, and the flow state they cultivated as a group, their relentless self-development, and their spontaneous and prolific creativity. He shows how their transpersonal creativity elevated them above their peers, and how they opened their minds to connect to the spirit of the 1960s, becoming transmitters of a creative energy that transcended themselves.

Greg Moffitt on the Joe Questions podcast. Link to video below.

Show notes: What if our ancient ancestors experienced the world through sound as much as sight? In this episode I’m joined by Greg Moffitt - writer, broadcaster and host of the long-running Legalise Freedom podcast - to talk about archaeoacoustics: the study of how ancient sites were built to sound, not just to look.

We get into why stone circles like Stonehenge and Avebury may have been deliberately shaped to reflect and focus sound, the ‘stone tape theory’ and its roots in 1970s British TV, why cathedrals function almost like instruments, and the bicameral mind theory of consciousness. From there we go further out - sound as a weapon, the pyramids as a possible power source, and a run through the competing theories on where (and whether) Atlantis actually existed, including catastrophism and the idea that human history may include a forgotten global reset.

Greg has spent over a decade interviewing researchers on the edges of mainstream thought through Legalise Freedom, and this conversation ranges from hard acoustics to speculative history — with the ground rules made clear as we go.

The recent solar eclipse of August 12^th 2026 took place two days before my birthday. I was on holiday in the foothills of the Pennines. Our rural location afforded unrestricted views of the sky which was almost completely free of clouds. Although in general I’m averse to, sometimes even repulsed by, mass events – especially those played out in the media – as a lifelong astronomy enthusiast, I have always taken the opportunity to witness any rare and dramatic cosmic happenings. I still recall climbing onto the roof of our garden shed to view the lunar eclipse on July 6^th 1982 through my grandfather’s WWII binoculars. It was the longest total lunar eclipse of the entire 20th century.

As many have already noted, this latest solar eclipse was – depending on how you look at it, literally and figuratively – something of a damp squib. Most amateur observers registered little more than a slight dimming in the sun’s intensity. There are lots of dramatic images of the eclipse available online, but as is the norm now, it’s almost impossible to tell the unfiltered from the heavily doctored. In any event, millions queued to buy their special eclipse glasses like so many buckets of popcorn in a cinema foyer.

Below are some photos from our vantage point near Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. Each set of four images was taken by a different camera. As far as I can tell, the secondary objects seen in both sets are probably lens flare, although at least one image appears to show the encroaching moon. I would value your opinions on what we’re looking at here.

For my part the eclipse was a quietly profound moment. When I contemplate the ineffable nature of the planets and the stars, the impossible vastness of the Universe, and the boundless magic and mystery of existence itself, worldly trivialities simply melt away. I am reminded yet again that we are all part of something much, much bigger, and that we would do well – individually and collectively – to live and die accordingly.

As the moon gradually made her way across the face of the sun, the first change I observed was the quality of the light; it became dimmer – obviously – but also altered in a way I can’t quite articulate. It was getting darker, but not in the usual way. It was not unlike the solar / lunar activity on other planets as described in science fiction. And the birds did indeed stop singing for a few minutes. Their instinctive, intuitive connection to Earth energies and planetary forces is a stark reminder of our own species’ catastrophic disconnect.

As fleeting as it was, the experience brought a wave of thoughts and emotions. I was reminded of both the awesome creative and destructive power of the heavenly bodies: Lars von Trier’s 2011 film Melancholia, in which humdrum human psychodrama plays out against a backdrop of a rogue planet rapidly approaching Earth to swiftly end all life. Danny Boyle’s 2007 movie Sunshine, set in 2057 as a global freeze threatens human extinction. The film follows the crew of a spacecraft on a mission to deliver a stellar bomb intended to reignite the dying Sun.

Ultimately, those precious few moments of cosmic change, on a scale almost unimaginable to the human intellect, present a challenge and an opportunity. The next total solar eclipse in my corner of the world will be on September 23^rd 2090.

Thomas Sheridan discusses his book Walpurgis Night: Volume One 1919 – 1933. Did you know that Hitler feared a dormant demonic force residing inside the moon which he believed somehow created and controlled human destiny? In Walpurgis Night: Volume One, Sheridan – known for his work on psychopathology, mass hysteria and social engineering – for the first time tackles a historical subject using these concepts as a framework in which to re-examine the rise of the Nazi cult and its legacy.

Sheridan’s research goes beyond the occult development of the Nazis by delving into the repressed Teutonic Haxan psyche. Examining everything from the movies of the era, to the political factions of 1919 who were invoking their own demons of death and destruction. The book takes into account every aspect of the Nazi occult from Fascination – otherwise known as eye magic – to word spells, to the sex magic rituals of the Third Reich. You will never see history in quite the same way again, and you’ll be left wondering if indeed the Nazis Black-Haxan magic is still at work today.

For a while it seemed like a reasonably good trade. No one wanted journalism to die, and the new influx of writers was doing pretty good work on the platform—albeit with lower budgets than traditional newsrooms. But the model raised an obvious question: how many individual newsletters could the platform rationally expect readers to pay $8/month to access?

The latest in my TV and movie review series Hauntology & Dystopia in which I discuss the 1977 TV series ‘Raven’. An orphan and former borstal inmate sent on a rehabilitation programme, assisting an archaeology professor in his excavation of a system of caves and who subsequently is compelled to fight a plan to build a nuclear waste disposal plant on the site. The man-made cave system is underneath an ancient stone circle, and contains 5^th Century rock carvings which may be connected to the legend of King Arthur and Arthurian lore. The professor believes that ‘Arthur’ may not have been a single individual but an inherited office and he emphasises the notion of Arthur and his knights slumbering below the West Country landscape awaiting the call to return to action in a time of peril, more as an idea than a physical reality. The show consistently features the sign of Pluto (referencing Plutonium as a by-product of a nuclear reactions), a symbol for Raven’s quest.
